Arlington Kitchen and Dining Room Renovation
The Challenge
This started as two very small, cramped rooms — a kitchen and dining room in a 1920s gambrel colonial. The colors had once been vibrant and fun: purple, chartreuse, dramatic and a little quirky. But now the client, a physician with a busy schedule, wanted to walk in the door and feel calm — a true haven from her work life.
Function was equally important and this kitchen wasn't working for them. Her daughter loves to bake, but there wasn't enough counter space or storage.
The Solution
We closed up some openings, rethought the windows to bring in better light, and — most importantly — removed the wall between the two rooms. We added as much storage as possible and repositioned the dining table to improve flow through the space.
The palette came from things she already loved: her glass collection and the trees visible outside the windows. A deep green anchored the room, toned way down to create calm. Jewel tones in the drapes and glassware play a supporting role — present, but subtle.
The final result feels lighter, calmer, and like a breath of fresh air.
