Summertime!
What Is it to You?
What is summer to you?
Is it a vacation at the beach? Weekends at the summer house? A voyage somewhere far away? Maybe it’s hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill with memories of running through a sprinkler in the back yard?
Summer for me is my garden.
In June, it’s a full-on press to transplant before it gets too hot. And after that, there’s always something to do. Puttering, deadheading, watering, weeding. The heavy work is done until fall. So I sit back and enjoy.Right now, the garden is full of purple and plum with hints of chartreuse and white. Gardening is like decorating for me. Everywhere you look a composition.

My garden has become an extension of my home – slow, summer afternoons spent with friends and after dinner chatting with neighbors who stop to inquire about what’s flowering or just to say hi.
My garden adds connection to my life, not to mention joy and beauty. And with each new bloom a moment of awe.
